Boarding
Brainerd Hills Veterinary Hospital has a great veterinarian-supervised boarding facility. It has indoor runs and cages for dogs. They are heated and cooled as needed. You can bring beds, blankets, toys, etc but you don't have to bring anything! Special diets requests are easy to honor, as is giving tablets, insulin, wound care, etc. The dogs get outdoors for play time and bathroom breaks usually 3-4 times per day, especially when the weather is nice. We have 3 large, heavily-shaded outdoor runs. We match up dogs of similar size and temperament and let them have play time together. The runs are closely monitored so if anyone gets a little pushy or intimidated, we separate them quickly. Dogs that don't want play time at all with other dogs are still welcome, and still get plenty of time outside; just by themselves. We routinely hear compliments from owners that their dog was excited and happy to return to board with us. That's because they got so much attention and playtime, it was actually fun! With the security and monitoring that boarders get, it really is a good option when you have to go out of town.
Brainerd Hills Veterinary Hospital also has comfortable individualized boarding for cats. They are housed on the other side of our building, completely separate from all dogs. They are also allowed access to our large sunroom. It allows them time to soak up some sun, stretch their legs, and watch the world out the windows. Cats with special medical needs are welcome. We routinely have cats boarding that have to have daily blood sugar tests done and insulin injections. Special diets are not a problem for us to provide too. We also routinely give treats for the cats to eat or smell (ie ...catnip) to keep them amused and stimulated.
Boarding charges are based on body weight. We have a strict vaccination policy, but this insures that everyone comes in healthy and happy and they leave healthy and happy. At the time of check-in and weighing, we will give each pet a quick exam for health status and a scan for external parasites. When you have to leave town, leaving your companion with us is a smart decision.
